ABOUT THE ARTIST

Fleece Kawasaki is the musical project of Brooklyn-born, LA-based, singer-songwriter Kiazi Halpern. Taking inspiration from the morose lyricism of artists like The Smiths, and Radiohead and combining it with the deceptively joyous compositions of artists like The Pillows and Johnny Marr, as well as an approach to writing songs inspired by honest, but unfortunate personal truths lead to a genre he likes to call Gloom Pop. In 2020 he collaborated with Layne Smith (of Glass Beach and Here Lies) in order to put out his debut release, The Desert Flower EP, a collection of beachy, contemplative tales of heartache, growth and isolation. He is currently hard at work on his follow-up album entitled Fake Frowns From Happy People.
